Photographer Annie Wang has spent the past two decades using art as a weapon to fight motherhood stereotypes in her native Taiwan.
Wang was recently invited to the Grand Palais Ephemère for the Elles x Paris Photo event - the world's largest international photography fair, to present her series "Mother as a Creator".
Traditionally being a mother "means nothing" in Taiwan, she told RFI. "Men have children, but woman are seen only as helpers, as a container, but I want to emphasise that motherhood is creative."
Every few years, Wang takes a black and white photograph documenting the passing of time as her son grows up.
"I worry my son will feel uncomfortable, so we discuss every picture together," says Wang. "Every story is from our daily lives."
In each photo, Wang's previous portrait can be seen on the wall behind. The different layers are superimposed, creating a mise en abyme of time passing by.
