SAN DIEGO, California: With the aim of expanding its automotive-related business, Qualcomm semiconductors said it would acquire Autotalks, an Israeli chip-maker specializing in crash-prevention technology in vehicles.
Without disclosing the terms of the deal, Qualcomm said that Autotalk's technology would be incorporated into the "Snapdragon Digital Chassis," its assisted and autonomous driving product.
As automakers increasingly equip their cars with driver-assistance systems, in September Qualcomm reported that in 2022 its automotive business's potential future orders increased by more than $10 billion to $30 billion since its third-quarter results were announced in late July, crediting the rise to its Snapdragon Digital Chassis product.
The company is a rival of Intel's Mobileye Global and Nvidia Corp in the autonomous driving market.
In the second quarter ending 26th March, Qualcomm's automotive business revenues rose 20 percent to $447 million.
Autotalks produces specialist chips used in the vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications technology for manned and driverless vehicles to improve road safety.
