TOKYO, Japan: Nikkei reported that due to concerns over US-Beijing tensions, Dell Technologies aims to stop using Chinese-made chips by 2024, and told its suppliers to deplete their stocks of other made-in-China components.
In December, the US added Chinese memory chipmaker YMTC and 21 "major" companies in the country's artificial intelligence chip sector to a trade blacklist.
The report added that Dell's rival, HP, has also begun reviewing its list of suppliers, as it is considering moving production and assembly outside of China.
Dell has also asked product assemblers and suppliers of other components, such as electronic modules and print circuit boards, to help move production to other countries, such as Vietnam, Nikkei reported.
"We continuously explore supply-chain diversification across the globe that makes sense for our customers and our business," Dell said in a statement.
The Biden administration announced a related series of export restrictions in October 2022, which included cutting off China from certain semiconductor chips made anywhere in the world with US tools.
