SYDNEY, NSW, Australia - Stocks in Asia were flat to higher on Tuesday.
In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rallied 275.38 points or 1.02 percent to close Tuesday at 27,250.28.
The Australian All Ordinaries advanced 15.30 points or 0.22 percent to 6,993.70.
In New Zealand, the S&P/NZX 50 surged 119.95 points or 1.11 percent to 10,902.21.
South Korea's Kospi Composite edged down 1.56 points or 0.07 percent to 2,234.60.
The Hang Seng in Hong Kong, which lost more than a thousand points on Monday, was flat Tuesday, closing 15/10 points or 0.10 percent higher at 15,165.59.
China's Shanghai Composite inched down 1.27 points or 0.04 percent to 2,976.28.
The U.S. dollar traded in a tight range on FX markets Tuesday. The euro was steady at 0.9868. The British pound dipped to 1.1280. The Japanese yen traded cautiously around Monday's intervention levels, at 148.92.
The XSwiss franc eased to 1.0013. The Canadian dollar was little changed at 1.3709. The Australian dollar firmed to 0.6322. The New Zealand dollar was little changed at 0.5607.
Overnight on Wall Street, the Dow Jones industrials did best, surging 417.06 points or 1.34 percent to 31,499.62.
The Standard and Poor's 500 rose 44.59 points or 1.19 percent to 3,797.34.
Trailing the field, the Nasdaq Composite increased 92.90 points or 0.86 percent to 10,951.61.
